False Hopes and Nemesis are combining forces

As most of you are aware, we have spent the last days discussing possible cooperation between False Hopes and Nemesis guilds in order to progress into 25-man content, and to find a solution to the problem that I simply do not have enough time at the moment to take care of running the guild.

We have agreed to bring the experience and skill of our active raiders to Nemesis, in order to form a larger and better managed guild, with excellent basis for progressing further in the Burning Crusade.

I have distributed the contents of our guild bank to our raiding members according to my best ability, to reward for lost dkp and to remind you that as we have played together before, we will continue playing in the future as well.

With the feedback of our advisers I have compiled a list of people who will be joining Nemesis. If your name is on the list, you can register to Nemesis forums and write an introduction of yourself here. After you have done that you will be invited to the guild.

In case your name is not on the list, but you feel it should be there, please contact me in our IRC channel, or even better write to our forums why you feel you should be included.

I will remain in False Hopes until most of our members have been invited to Nemesis.

Please, remember to read the guild rules of Nemesis, and treat their members with equal respect. We are one guild now, working together to beat the game ;)

PS. I'm sorry I was unable to post this earlier.

Things to consider while I am gone

I just wrote a rather long post to the forums about what I think of the future of False Hopes, and what you should consider while I am taking a break. I hope every active member will read it.

The post is in private forums, so those who are not in the guild cannot access it.

You can view the post here.

My last week before a break

As many of you know already, I am taking a break from raids starting next Thursday (26th) until 15th May. This post serves more as a reminder of it ;)

I will be on our IRC channel, though, and watch the forums and pop in the game every now and then, but while I'm less active I hope those with Advisor or Master Chief (Halo ftw) rank will take over.

I'm expecting you to put raids to GroupCalendar and keep things going while I'm gone. Those with Master Chief rank can also promote, demote, invite and remove people from the guild, so you can deal with recruiting new members as well.

There's still a week to go, so if you have any questions or suggestions don't hesitate to ask ;)

Fresh outta Easter Egg

It's been quite a while since my last post, and to my surprise I was actually quite happy about the fact that we didn't raid that much the past week. Maybe it's just me, since I've been on way too many raids since we started them, but it feels nice to take a break every once in a while. Though I do hope that that suddenly half of our members didn't quit playing permanently. That would really suck :D

I'm still quite busy with RL stuff so don't expect me to be online much outside raid time. If you have some questions / suggestions / issues please contact some of the advisors or a Master Chief, hopefully they can help you out. I'm trying to anyway take WoW more easy now.

Couple weeks ago I realized that I come online for raids mostly because of a sense of obligation, not that I enjoyed playing the game that much. So I'm trying to focus a bit on other things instead of running FH and raiding, to keep me enjoying the moments I spend in WoW as well ;)

For me it was never meant to take this much time anyway.

The way I read Group Calendar

Since Group Calendar is essentially a limited system with its own variables, I've been trying to figure out the best way to circle the restrictions it has to make raid attendance more meaningful than just based on who is the earliest one to sign up. The time when you signed up does not matter at all.

The calendar puts everyone to standby by default. When you are in a raid I will move you to signed up. For the next raid, I will look who has been on standby day or two before, and then move them to signed up as soon as the previous raid is over. Basically this means, that if you are signed up, you have a guaranteed spot on a raid. The empty spots will be filled from those on standby. However if you are signed up, but do not come online in time you'll lose your priority, and get not attending status, which means that you have chance to lose the priority for next raid as well.

However as usual certain classes have a priority due to them being necessary to the success of the raid.

Gruul's Lair

I wish that everyone would work hard now so we can bring down Maulgar and Gruul. This will obviously let more people to join to the raids instead of having to pass again and again.

The thing is, that Karazhan is the only 10man raid in TBC, and I don't understand why people only aim for that, considering that the loot is sub-par to some blues and heroic epics. Many guilds in this server can't think longer than their noses but are only aiming to raid Karazhan, and I feel they'll be in trouble when Karazhan is not offering anything new anymore. I hope you all are patient and work towards this goal of moving to 25man raids.

Karazhan is just a stepping stone. The true TBC endgame content is Gruul, Magtheridon, Vashj and Kaelthas. It's those instances where we should aim.

On top of that it would give really good reputation for us, and help us to get the few missing healers and tanks we need for further progress and hopefully 2 Karazhan groups so when there's not enough people online for 25mans we can easily go do Karazhan for fun.

In other words, downing Gruul as soon as possible helps everyone!

Some changes to ranks

I will remove the DKP Officer rank, and give Advisors the power to make DKP adjustments. So if you're and advisor please get the EPGP addon and read how it works. Advisors should also be leading raids in case there's need for it (thus the ability to deal dkp)

Couple more people should also be getting Advisor rank now, since so many of the old ones have left, so if you're interested have a talk with me.

Third thing is, that I will be creating a new rank for basically second GM. This person should be active, capable of leading raids and preferably does this job better than I do. Basically this person can do everything I can, except post to the website directly =) Naturally this person should be rather highly regarded and respected by everyone in the guild.

The main reason is, that like some of you know, I'll be away from raiding between 26th April and 15th May. Girlfriend is coming to Finland for ~3 weeks so I'll be spending as much time with her as possible. However I try to log in every day to see how things are going etc.

But otherwise during that time it's the advisors' and second GM's job to handle raid attendance stuff and leading them.

As a final note; I really hope that me being away does not result in the guild breaking up. Please handle things with care ;)

Inviting alts

Hey,

I have to apologize for being bitchy about this earlier, but from now on you can whisper me for invites to get your alts to the guild as well, and enjoy the mesmerizing guild chat going on...

Your alts officer note will say who the main character is. This is due to epgp dkp addon. Also I will write people with alts in guild information like this

Vainaa: Gigglz
Dimwit: Anja
.
.
.

And sorry about not doing this earlier. I thought it would make handling recruitment status etc. more difficult to have alts in the guild, but starting to level my warrior last night I realized that having guild chat is pretty necessary to have so that people can spam me again with whispers etc. knowing when I'm online.

Resolving raid priority

I got an idea last night about how we could handle this. It's basically similar system to epgp but with some changes. First of all, every time you're signed in for a raid, but there's no room your raid priority number increases by 1.

When creating the next raid, those with higher priority get in after the essential classes. This will reduce your priority by 2, because otherwise we'll end up with situations where the real priority is harder to resolve.

However, on top of those 2 things there should also be raid priority depreciation to reward those who are more often online and ready to raid. This means that the priority number would decrease a certain percentage every day or something.

Now the problem with this is execution. It takes simply too much time to manually calculate everything. I tried to find an addon that could store this kind of player data with batch processing and I tried to make it work in Excel, and to some extent I managed, but in the end I realized that if I use Excel it takes too much effort to keep the priority list up to date.

That + other stuff I'm doing to keep stuff updated (GroupCalendar, guild bank, profession list, website and forums in general) simply starts to take its toll, and I am not willing to add these raid priority calculations to my to-do list.

Now, if someone knows a good database application or interface addon that is free of charge and handles this kind of stuff, let me know. Or if you simply can be bothered about keeping these things up do date.

Basically this is the functionality I'm looking for:

- Add a number to character name
- Reduce a number from character name
- Numbers cannot go below 0 (i.e. 5-10 = 0)
- Do percentage change to all the numbers in the system
- Batch processing (numbers can be added / reduced from multiple character names at the same time)
- Sorting the information by priority and character name

Would be huge plus if for example percentage change could be automated, so that the system would automatically reduce each number by 10% once every 48 hours or so.

Guild Bank Contents

Most of these items are gotten during raids, and thus the priority for getting them belongs to people who are active raiders.

At the moment there is no DKP or gold cost involved in getting items from the bank. However there is a condition, that depending on item rarity it can be given out only if it will benefit future raiding. Especially when it comes to enchants rare materials are only given out for enchanting epic items, with priority belonging to the more essential classes; healers and tanks.

If you desire something less rare you can simply ask for it, but only if you have been active in raids.

In case the bank has something you want, contact me in game and I'll see if you can get the item or not.

Goal: 2 Karazhan groups

I think this is something we all should strive for now. Basically the best way to do this would be to assign Groups 1 and 2 separate healers and tanks.

Group compilation should look something like this:

1 protection warrior (MT)
1 feral druid (OT + DPS)
1-2 holy priests (main healer, tree of life druid can replace one)
1 holy paladin

Basically those 5 classes are guaranteed to be needed in clearing thrash and in almost every boss. That's why both groups should have them. The remaining 5 spots in both groups could be then circulated to the dps classes, meaning that for example a warlock can be in group 1 this week, but in group 2 next week. Important thing obviously is to remember in which group you started with after reset.

Of course if both groups get bosses down in about same pace, the dps can circulate between groups any day.

Now in order to reach this goal, we'd need 1-2 more feral druids, 1-2 holy priests or tree of life druids and one more protection warrior to the guild. I hope that as members of the guild you would also be active in talking with your in-game friends and helping in creating positive image of FH so that we can reach this goal soon.

Cheers, and I wish great weekend for everyone!

Update to GroupCalendar

In order to give better chance for everyone to get into a raid; everyone signing up for 2 raids that are next to each other (wed-thu, sat-sun, mon-tue for example) will be put to standby for the latter day. This is to have more circulation of people and give better chance for everyone to attend. However, if you're on standby slot on saturday, and signed up on thursday and sunday, and get invited to raid on saturday anyway it will not change your existing sign ups.

However the need to have specific classes will still overrule this, and in case that there are too many people after these adjustments the remaining room in the raid will be given to people who signed up first.

Note also, that I am monitoring the situation of sign ups often, and making these adjustments. An example would be a boss such as Moroes where 2 tanks are needed. If there is only 1 tank in signed up list and another one who has been put to standby by the addon, I will move that second tank to signed up, and moving the person who signed up latest to the standby list.

I try to update the status for next days raid every night when we know what boss is to be killed the next day.

Recruitment open

We have 25 lvl 70 people. Usually about 13-15 are online at raid times. This is really annoying to those who are online and find out there's no room for them in the raid.

That being one reason and another reason being our future progress to Gruul's lair; I'm going to increase the size of the guild. Basically if we had no free space we'd have 38 members now, and I want to add 1 extra to each class, so we'd total at 47. I think now is the perfect time to do this, since guilds seem to be breaking up and there are many people looking for a new guild. However our higher recruitment requirements will hold, and as you can see from our current situation having every class full is not going to happen for a long time.

GroupCalendar: testing and using

In order to make raiding smoother and avoiding the annoying situation of having to tell people there's no room, we're testing GroupCalendar addon now.

What you need to do is install the addon, click "setup" tab and set it to automatic. Then you should be able to see events for each day and register for raids.

With the addon it's possible to adjust how many slots / class is on a raid, and basically the sooner you register the more chance you have of getting on the raid. Not sure yet how this will work in practice, since it's possible to end up with a situation where the first ones to register are all dps for example, and when the addon sees a raid is full it may not let healers or tanks to register anymore.

What I might end up doing is using the confirmation system, where it's possible to manually state who have been confirmed to attend the raid. This can be also done first come first serve basis, but the difference is that then the raid leader can leave room for a specific class that is needed.

Please note, that even if you haven't been confirmed for a raid, there's still good chance that someone might be late / can't come and you have a position after all.

So, let's see for a week now how this goes! Starting on Wednesday's raid!

PS: At the moment DKP Officers and Advisors should be able to create events with the calendar. I'm expecting people with those ranks to be capable to lead raids in case there's need for it. Cheers.

Guild bank or no guild bank?

In my opinion it's fair to everyone raiding that when something drops they have equal chance to get it and do whatever they want with it. When it comes to disenchanting for guild bank, or getting money for guild bank you can basically state, that even loot distribution means that the guild bank is also distributed to everyone.

So for example if someone wins a Void Crystal on a run, but doesn't need it, it can be given to someone else if requested in Guild chat, provided that the person with the item agrees. There will be a sort of small economy inside the guild if we don't have bank, but why is that a bad thing? It might very slightly hinder our progress but it's more fair to everyone.

On the other hand, having a guild bank is more progress oriented and would basically let us gather a "war chest" that could be used to help more active players. Also stuff could be sold from guild bank to members, and the accumulated gold then used for example special prizes in guild events. However this involves quite a bit of work; there would have to be online form showing the contents of the bank, price of items etc.

Anyway, if you have good ideas and experiences from previous guilds, please let me know how this was handled! =)

Realm forums

Hey,

Not to offend anyone, but I think it's best policy that we won't get involved in the flame wars going on there. I know many people are angry because of the ignorance of Brute Force people etc. but better to just suck it up. Let's focus on doing our own thing.

I think that smart people can find out themselves what guild is best for them, and I think being in flame wars causes more negative reputation towards us than positive, no matter how well argued.

The reason I'm not posting raid progress on realm forums for now is the same; it takes focus away from things that matter, such as building a good community and having fun playing. WoW is not a competition. However I'll probably put some more major updates to the forums; such as clearing all Kara, server first kills etc. (if that ever happens ^^) that really matter a bit more. Killing an individual boss is kind of gimmicky.

Now that I think of it, it's also better to contribute to the community instead of compete, so in case we get for example first kills its better to share out tactics and information, not just brag about it. Doing things like this will make us look good to others, not bragging about epics ;)

Cheers.

EP + GP rewards and DKP tips

This list is subject to change. Effort Points do not relate to value of items, but they should indicate how difficult a certain boss is to kill.

Each player in Raid will receive the number of points stated here, these are not divided amongst members.

Karazhan

10 DKP ::: On-time bonus
5 DKP ::: For each wipe at new boss when trying to kill it
25 DKP ::: For getting first kill
80 DKP ::: For getting raid target completed

20 DKP ::: Random Animal Boss
40 DKP ::: Attumen the Huntsman
100 DKP ::: Maiden of Virtue
120 DKP ::: Moroes
140 DKP ::: The Curator
150 DKP ::: Terestian Illhoof
220 DKP ::: Shade of Aran
260 DKP ::: Prince Malchezaar

60 DKP ::: The Big Bad Wolf
130 DKP ::: Wizard of Oz
100 DKP ::: Romulo and Julianne

0 DKP ::: Chess Event

The DKP for bosses will get updated and adjusted as we make progress.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Since EPGP addon does not recognize gear value for tier 4 tokens, the value of tier 4 items themselves is following:

Gloves 197
Head 254
Chest 254
Legs 254
Shoulders 197

I'll add tier 5 values later, much later ^^

Now, here are steps to take when raiding if i'm not present:

1) Click "create raid" from EPGP addon. This will do the DKP depreciation.

2) When everyone is in same zone, click "+EP Raid - Add EP's to Raid" and insert 10, so everyone gets 10 points. Remember to use this menu to give DKP for wipes on new bosses, first kills and boss kills.

3) When someone wins an item, click "+ GP" and select the person who won and input the items point value.

It's rather simple, just remember that when you're giving EP to raid, everyone has to be in same zone or they are not getting the points.

Raid tools required

Please make sure you have the following addons and VentriloMix installed. Ventrilo 2.3 server address, password etc. is in guild information. Also try to keep your addons up to date.

These addons are not optional. If you want to raid, you need to have them installed.

KLHThreatMeter - Shows a small window where you can see how much threat you have to avoid getting aggro.

CTMod - Useful UI addon, but it is the CT_Raidassist that is essential to have. You can also use some other raid addon with same functionality as CT_raid.

BigWigs Bossmods - Boss alert mod telling when Maiden does repentance, Moroes vanishes etc.

GroupCalendar - Needed in order to register for raids.

I will update the list if a good mod is missing.

Raid selection

Hey,

I am aware that the system we have now (rolling about extra members if they get into raid or not, while getting position in next raid if they are left out) is annoying.

I am open for ideas to make the whole process more fair and not requiring people to be online for possible position in the raid destroying their other scheduled plans.

DKP Standings

EP stands for effort points, and GP for gear points. Effort points are gotten when bosses go down, being on-time etc. and gear points when you receive loot. The more EP's you have; the more effort you've made in raids, and the more GP's you have; the more you've gotten loot.

The EPGP addon uses those two factors to count the priority order.

Min EPs means how many Effort Points you need to have before you are allowed to compete for loot (of course if you have less than that, but no one else wants the item you can get it).

You can see DKP in real time with the epgp addon.

Sorry if not updated all the time.

Maiden of Virtue down!

Tonight we beat the odds and got False Hopes first kill on Maiden of Virtue! Especially nice about this was, that we did it with a 9man raid.

I also updated recruitment status, so if you know people who are looking for friendly guild then please spread the word and see if they'd like to join ;)

Hopefully We'll move past Moroes this weekend towards new challenges!

Thank you Kuqi, Zorar, Dimwit, Stormflayer, Conclave, Itchy, Xirtram and Sathanas for getting our first kill!

Rules and guidelines updated

Hey,

I made some changes to the Rules and guidelines post, to keep it up to date. The changes are:

3. There is NO officer chat. Well, in a way there is because it is a quick way to guide DKP officers for using the EPGP addon and answer their questions, but otherwise everything will be discussed in guild chat or forums so all the members will have an opportunity to be heard.

4. When there are more people coming to raid than what the instance can support, those who are left out have priority the next day. However the need to have enough tanks + healers in a raid will overrule that priority.

Loot system

We are using EPGP system for loot distribution. In this system points are gotten from boss kills, being on-time, trying new bosses, first kills etc.

Basically Effort Points are a proof of your activity in raiding. The more points you have, the more active you are and thus you have higher priority to get loot.

Gear Points accumulate when you buy items. The more gear points you have the more you have accumulated loot, which means your rank in looting order also decreases. Cost of items is calculated by EPGP addon.

In addition to those, EPGP has DKP depreciation included. This means that the amount of DKP each member has will decrease in time if you are inactive. This is to prevent hoarding DKP and to prevent passing on loot that would improve your equipment. In other words; 10 DKP today will be less than 10 next week unless it's spent.

Everyone's current Effort Points and Gear Points can be seen in officer note, however you need to have EPGP addon to see the loot priority in game.

Remember also that as a guild we play together. Who gets what loot is open to discussion and try to think what would benefit the guild too. For example a spell damage staff is nice for holy priest as well outside instances or in case that he might respec at some point, but it does not really help in raiding at the moment. I hope you get my point, let's not be loot nazis =)

More detailed information about EPGP system can be found here.

DKP on hold!

There will be a delay in starting to use DKP. Itchy was kind enough to tell me that the DKP model I did is shit, but even better he found epgp DKP system which - simply put - seems like the best DKP model ever.

Starting on Wednesday's Karazhan raid I will test epgp. If it works well then we start using it. However this means that there will also be DKP in use in Karazhan, but I believe this is not a big issue and in the end it does not have much impact on who gets an item there, since it's only 10-man instance. Also by getting DKP in Karazhan runs gives more incentive to come there even though there were no drops that one would really need.

So, forget the DKP model and Eternal DKP for now.

Cheers!

Raid schedule continued...

Okies, I'm adding the initial raid schedule plan to the site now. We will go along that unless there are adjustments that need to be made.

Since we seem to have hard time getting enough people for raids even now, we will run only Karazhan in weekdays and Gruul's lair in weekends when more people can be online at the same time. However until we have enough people for Gruul's there will be Karazhan runs during weekends as well.

I am also considering recruiting some extra warriors and priests, since based on current experience in Karazhan every run should have two tanks and preferably two priests. Otherwise progressing will be difficult. One paladin and one mage is also rather important to have there.

Raid schedule

Would be nice to know in addition to raid times that how many days people are willing to raid in a week. Right now we have only one Karazhan group / day so there are possibly people left out sometimes. However things change again when few more people hit level 70 and hopefully within 2-3 weeks we can try out Gruul's lair.

I'm planning to post a raid schedule on the right bar of this website, however would be nice to get some feedback before I do it ;)

So please state the days and times you could raid. Right now I am thinking something like mon-thu starting 6.30pm server time and on saturdays and sundays starting 5-6pm server time.

When we get Karazhan on farm status it's possible to start doing it more casually without that much planned schedule.

Well anyway, opinions and suggestions regarding this are welcome!

First boss down in Karazhan

Finally the raids are starting ;) We killed the first boss in Karazhan after wiping once, and then made our way to Moreass twice and heroically wiping there for a dozen times or so, before we finally called it quits.

I'm confident that future runs will go a lot smoother since this was the first time for everyone in Karazhan. Also I firmly believe that having relatively bad class balance in the raid was the biggest reason for not downing Moreass.

Few things regarding future raids, since we have more level 70 people than what we can fit. Instead of random chance the priority in raids will go to people who have good gear and raid spec. Also class balance is a factor, but when there are more than one person of same class then those two things will be considered. I do not want to force raid specs, and you can still come to raids without speccing for it, but it's only fair that those who sacrifice in other aspects of playing have the priority.

Let's hope that tomorrow we'll see Moreass and Maiden dead ;)

To Karazhan

This Sunday (18.2) at 6pm server time we'll see how far we can get. Be ready to be summoned or on your way to Karazhan at 6pm. No one wants to be waiting for a single person. Before Sunday please help others in guild to get the key done.

The priority (for now at least) for getting on the raid goes so, that we have as many different classes there as possible. Since Karazhan resets every Wednesday the priority is to keep the same raid group together who started clearing the place. For next raid after reset the priority goes to those who were online but couldn't fit in to the last raid. This is something you also should discuss in the forums, since I'm not sure if this is really the best way to deal with things. Also it would help a lot if we can have two Karazhan groups going soon.

Also at least for the start now, if there are more people who want to come to raid than we have available slots, then the priority goes to those with better gear / PvE spec. Simple logic is, that spending 6 hours in Karazhan may very well give you nothing but 6 hours in other lvl 70 instances can yield you couple or more gear improvements.

For the beginning we won't use DKP in Karazhan. Everyone can say when they need something and roll for it, but one person can only win something once during Karazhan run.

If you have something to add here or suggestions, please take it to the forums. I'll update this post with possible changes that happen before Sunday.

Also check this post at Forums and let me know what raid times are best for you.

Are you prepared...

...for Karazhan?

If you have done the attunement questline and have Master's key, then please go to the forums and say it ;)

Meet the Advisors!

At first I have to say I am a little disappointed about how few people cared about who's going to help you out, but then again it remains to be seen if this has any adverse effects.

Instead of original 4-5 people the title is going to 7 since so many people got the same number of votes. The landslide went to Loviatar and four people writing your name was enough to get the rank. Now if for some reason you don't want this, then please let me know.

And like I said before, the most visible perk of advisors is the ability to set guild message and officer notes. Otherwise the title means that you should help other guildies out in their hour of need! This involves answering to questions, helping with attunements / elite killings and overall being more active member of the guild (forums, website).

And the rank goes to:
loviatar
pipar
xirtram
hairport
kynäniska
kelemvor
sanguin

Congrats and please go to Forums and write few words about yourselves so others get to know you a little ;)

And as a sidenote, since Xirtram won't be El Chef anymore, who has high skill in cooking?

Officer selection changed!

After chatting with few people about the officer thingie I think it's best not to choose individual caster/melee etc. leaders.

Reason for this being the same for not choosing a main tank. It's best not to be relying on a specific person to turn up for a raid, and I'd much rather see a situation where any healer can step into the shoes and tell others what to do on which encounter, sort out healing orders and so on.

So, only Advisor ranks will be given out, but instead of 3 people I think it's fair that the rank is given to 4-5 people, so go to the Forums and suggest them unless you already haven't, if you have then please change your posts.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Time to choose our "Officers"

Alright, I think I'm rather done with the concept for officer rank, so it's time to choose the people who get that title.

For some background info I'm not too fond with the usual officer rank, because it suggests that all the guild members are not equal and it's usually the officers who decide about raid times, tell people to respec etc.

So, instead of having officers I want to call these people "Advisors". Their role is to help other guildies by answering to questions, giving tips and helping with elite quests from time to time. Their job can be leading raids / groups and doing research about bosses in case people are too lazy to do it themselves ;) When it comes to concrete "perks" you get to set up the Guild Message of the Day... Whee!

The people with Advisor rank need to have good knowledge about TBC, but most importantly they need to be online often, chatty and friendly to keep the kind of atmosphere that when there's trouble they can come and help. Knowing the abilities of more than one class is always a bonus. This rank will be available for 3 people.

Another new rank I want to introduce will be sort of replacement for the usual classleader rank you're seeing. This is also aimed to help raiding, and the rank(s) are called Healer, Caster and Killer (please suggest some titles that don't sound this lame). Their role will simply be to coordinate the healing, ranged dps and melee dps (includes tanking) efforts in raids, so raid leader gets a bit of responsibility of his/her shoulders.

This rank requires you to have knowledge of more than one class, with preferably raiding experience in more than 2 lvl 60's. You will be helping people with specs so extensive knowledge of different talent builds is nice to have.

  • Healer title is for priests, druids, paladins and shamans.
  • Caster title is for mages, warlocks, hunters (like I said, please come up with better title) and shadow priests, maybe shamans too. Anyway, for all doing ranged dps.
  • Killer title is for rogues, warriors, shamans, paladins and druids (melee dps).

Each of these ranks will be given to two people.

Now for actually choosing the people; please go to Advisor Selection thread in the Forums.

You have time to write down your suggestions until Friday 9th 9pm server time.

We'll see how this starts to work then ;) The reason I want to get this resolved now is that I'll be in London 10th-14th February and there might be Karazhan runs during that time. I hope. Please... ^^

Warm welcome to Steelstorm

...and other changes

Within next few days a majority of people from Steelstorm guild will be joining us. This is not a hastily made decision, as some of you know. It has been discussed in our and their guild chats, and personally me and their GM Loviatar have been talking about this in detail for a week now, and not to conflict against False Hopes policy for recruiting members, I have personally played with 4 of the people joining us, and since they all are RL friends there is no reason to keep them apart. If I had any doubt about them fitting our atmosphere and skill requirements, this "merge" would not happen.

Practically this means that we are getting close to our desired member count, and after this we won't be actively recruiting new members anymore. We will end up having more than desired number of people in certain classes, while still lacking in others, but this should not have major effect since as you know different classes can perform different roles (ie. shaman can fill a spot of melee dps and healer very well).

The existing False Hopes rules and policies remain the same except for one change; I have been noticing people disappearing for a good number of days again without notification, so disappearing without reason may result to guild kick if one is away for more than one week. It is still ok to take a break, just tell us about it in your public note (since everyone can set their public note).

This is mostly for those joining from Steelstorm, but also partially for others who have joined us recently; here's couple posts you should read to get to know False Hopes a little better and how things work here:
Rules and guidelines
About raid specs

Also, please add your useful craft recipes with Thottbot links to the False Hopes crafts post.

Next week I will start looking for guild officers (a different post about that later). However this will be a bit different from the officers that you might have gotten used to seeing in previous guilds and is meant for those who don't mind doing some extra work to benefit the whole guild ;)

I can't say I'm not excited about this. Soon most of the guild will be running in Outlands and we can do a mass of guild runs. Can't wait for that to happen!

- Cheers!

Burning Crusade attunements

Sathanas made a great post to our forums about different attunement quest lines that need to be completed for different Burning Crusade raid content and for more challenging 5-man instances.

This is a must read for everyone, since few of those attunements are of a sort that everyone needs to complete them eventually instead of only the group leader.

Leveling up

Last night we had a discussion in guild chat about setting goals for leveling up, so that everyone would keep the pace and we could keep the guild members closer to each other level-wise, but after thinking that quite a bit I think it's better not to walk that path.

However I due urge you to level up fast now. Please forget PvP etc. and concentrate on making it to Outland as soon as possible. In 2-3 weeks I'd like to see 90% of the guild wearing TBC gear and building different equipment sets for raiding purposes.

I know there's RL stuff for everyone, but at least you could try to get a bit more out of the time spent in the game. And when you finally make it to Outland, relax... TBC content is new for everyone so I don't want to rush anyone while doing it. Just hurry up getting to that content first ;)

Burning Steppes is a good realm

I was about to go sleep but ended up wandering to WarcraftRealms.com and what I saw there was pretty insane... I wanted to wait a bit after TBC release before going to check how the new realms launched at the eve of expansion were doing, but I guess it's a good time to post some initial impressions.

I realize that the numbers will most likely balance themselves somewhat as the realms grow older, but at the moment this will probably make you all happy to have rolled in Burning Steppes. Oh, I included only the new English PVP realms here, but I have no reason to doubt that the results are more or less like these on other new realms:

EU-Auchindoun
Total Alliance: 514 - 18%
Total Horde: 2,323 - 82%
57% of total population (A+H) are Blood Elves.

EU-Karazhan
Total Alliance: 1,191 - 19%
Total Horde: 4,990 - 81%
49% of total population (A+H) are Blood Elves.

EU-Shattered Halls
Total Alliance: 1,024 - 25%
Total Horde: 3,074 - 75%
50% of total population (A+H) are Blood Elves.

As a comparison, let's see what are the stats for Burning Steppes:
Total Alliance: 5,423 - 41%
Total Horde: 7,832 - 59%
9% of total population (A+H) are Blood Elves.

My apologies if I missed something. Full list can be seen here.

Commenting

Sorry guys, I just now realized that the default setting in Blogger only lets registered users to leave a comment. I changed that now, so you can comment any post without the need to register.

Please start adding your recipes to the craft list soon so we can make it look really nice. It might also prove helpful if you want to sell craftable items to outsiders.

Vainaa's Jewelcrafting List

I craft green quality gems for free for guild members. Blue quality gems are free to some extent provided that the item where it's going is of epic quality and used in raids (no pvp set items), otherwise you will have to provide material for the gem.

For meta gems, amulets and rings you need to provide materials.

Time to remove Christmas decorations

Following the Rules and guidelines -post; I will be removing all inactive people from the guild today. This means people that haven't been online for a while, people who have failed to level up (25 levels in 4 weeks seriously is not enough, it means you're not playing) and people who have told me they will reroll to other server.

Doing this is kind of sad, but at least we will have a clear idea about recruitment status and we can get rid of some "dead weight" by doing this.

IF you are still playing and you notice you are not in the guild anymore, please contact me asap in game. My sincere apologies if that happens.

After this cleanup we will follow the system in the Rules and guidelines -post, meaning that being away for 2 weeks without telling the guild a reason will get you kicked.

I am also considering minimum level requirement to prevent people from falling too much behind. This would obviously take into account that many people just rerolled here when TBC arrived, and I am not a harsh person anyway =)

Rules and guidelines

Hmm this is kind of something I'm not sure if I should do or not, but since I'm doing it I try to keep it as simple as I can, and update it if there seems to be need for it.

  1. If you need to take a break or otherwise can't play WoW, state it in the public note (everyone can edit their own note).
  2. Players who have been inactive for over a week without stating a reason for it will be kicked from the guild. This is to keep the guild active and to constantly have a clear idea on how many people of each class are needed.
  3. There is NO officer chat. Well, in a way there is because it is a quick way to guide DKP officers for using the EPGP addon and answer their questions, but otherwise everything will be discussed in guild chat or forums so all the members will have an opportunity to be heard.
That's it for now, like I said I'm not too excited about having a set of rules, but at least this should clear out some confusion.

Okies, there are couple threads in the forums now that I'd like you to take a look at:

Post your UI - Started by Maeror and should be as self-explanatory as the next one ^^
Who are you? - The legendary RL pictures thread. Please be honest here as I have been ;)

Also remember to post to Professions forum if you can make any rare recipies. When we start to have a list I will move it here to the Blogger platform and put a permanent link to the sidebar.

False Hopes, origin of the name

The first time I wanted to name a guild False Hopes was like 8 months ago, when the guild I was back then merged with another raid guild on Vekni'lash. I thought False Hopes would carry appropriate irony (not to mention that it sounds kind of cool) since the aim of the merger was to actually be able to raid better. We hoped to raid better and by naming it False Hopes I think we would have conveyed a message of good self-irony.

Oh well, it didn't happen. The guild became Incareporated to mock an Alliance side raid guild.

However the origin for the name False Hopes is from a story. I am / used to be quite active on DeviantART, doing digital art and photography myself. Through DA I found a talented artist and writer whose short story false hopes :: gun dreams inspired the name as well. The story is twisted, dark, emo and gay, but I liked it.

About raid specs

I get asked every once in a while what is the plan of False Hopes regarding raid specs, so I was thinking of shedding few ideas here, and since it's a blog platform please add comments and discuss what you think ;)

First and foremost, I am not too happy with forced raid specs. In worst case it means having a spec that is only appropriate for one specific setting and makes it pure pain to do anything else in the game, making also WoW a lot less enjoyable experience - and if it's not fun, then why continue playing? As an example take a lvl60 restoration shaman with 40 points in restoration. You basically disregard the versatility and multiple functions of the class and try to make it a priest, and at the same time destroy the solo PvE and PvP experience of the class. I am not saying I oppose these specs, though. If you want to make one, then please do, but I do not want to force it.

However when you plan for a spec, keep in mind that we are mainly a PvE guild. PvP is easy to organize between guild members but raiding requires a bit more effort so that's where my focus is. Try to come out with a spec that will be excellent for raiding while letting you enjoy other aspects of the game as well. Obviously every priest cannot spec shadow or every warrior arms/fury, but I hope this is something we can solve by discussion, depending on what different people want.

Here comes another very important part; Since as members of the guild you can choose your specs more freely, you also should try to gather different equipment sets to compensate for efficiency in different situations. Obvious sets would be separate healing and melee dps sets for a shaman, or feral and healing sets for a druid (to be more specific, feral tanking, feral dps and healing). Even if you are a "pure" class you still should invest time to get different sets. As an example for a mage int/sta in PvP and solo PvE should change to int/spi in raid environment. Without going to details I'd say that same logic can be applied to most classes.

When TBC comes we might do a list about specs everyone wants to take and try to find some form of balance. Also as the final note; I personally believe that the hybrid role of many classes will become more important due to smaller raid-size. Hybrids might be the key for being able to adjust to different encounters.
